Adif to support India’s regional rail system development

Administrador de Infraestructuras Ferroviarias (ADIF) and National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), a JV formed by Government of India and States of Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, signed an agreement on the development of regional rail systems (RRTS) in India’s National Capital region (NCR).
ADIF will co-operate with NCRTC to develop track, signalling, rolling stock, safety, multi-modal integration, and station design for two mass transit lines.
The strategy on rail transit development in NCR region prioritizes three corridors: Delhi-Meerut Line, Delhi – Panipat Line and Delhi – Alwar Line. The Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor will be the first one to be implemented for which pre-construction activities including geo-technical investigations, detailed design, utility shifting planning and traffic diversion planning are in progress.
The regional rapid transit system strategy involves the development of regional lines allowing trains to run at 180 km/h using new rolling stock and modern signalling systems. According to NCRTC, this is the country’s first strategy on the development of such lines.
French SNCF expressed its willingness to support RRTS projects and the possibility of similar agreement between NCRTC and SNCF was explored during a visit of SNCF delegation’s in November.
