Adif AV awards a EUR 184 million station contract

Murcia-Almeria high-speed lineAdif Alta Velocidad (Adif AV) awarded a EUR 184.5 million contract for the construction of a new rail platform on the Totana-Totana section in Murcia and of a new intermodal station on the Murcia-Almeria high-speed line.

The contract has been awarded to the joint venture formed by Contratas y Ventas and Construcciones Sánchez Domínguez Sando which should complete the works in the next 30 months.

The works will be carried out in a 9.9 km rail section that runs entirely through the municipality of Totana. The new intermodal station will be constructed about 500 metres far from the existing one which will be replaced by the new facility. The projected platform corresponds to a double track layout, suitable for mixed traffic – passengers and freight transport services – and is designed for maximum speeds of 300 km/h. The section, given its length and its development through the peri-urban area of the town of Totana, entails numerous effects on service, supply, sanitation and irrigation facilities.

The contract also includes the construction of six viaducts with a total length of 3,174 metres, including a 954 m long viaduct over the A-7 motorway. The new viaducts will cross the municipality, saving the existing infrastructures, intersections and structures.

The joint venture will also build four overpasses and two underpasses, two 220-metre long platforms, two lifts and an underpass that will connect the platforms with the intermodal station. 56 transversal drainage works, as well as the replacement of the power supply, conduction and sanitation and other facilities will be also constructed.

Adif AV expects that the contract will be co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

With this contract, all the sections on the Murcia-Almeria high-speed line are under construction or awarded, except for the integration section in Lorca whose project is in the drafting phase. The 200 km high-speed line crosses 7.5 km of tunnels and is served by 4 stations in Murcia, Lorca, Vera and Almería. The line is situated on the Mediterranean Corridor and is considered a critical infrastructure for the region and country aligned with the European recovery strategy that has directed its resources to projects that will promote the green and digital economy.
