South Australian government awarded the Torrens Connect consortium a contract for the operations and maintenance of Adelaide’s North – South tram and bus network.
The consortium comprises Torrens Transit, UGL and John Holland.
The contracts which will start in July, have been awarded for eight years, with an option to extend a further two years.
Torrens Transit will operate the Outer North East, East West and Outer North bus contracts, while the consortium will be responsible for North South light rail. Torrens Transit and Keolis Downer are currently existing providers of bus services in South Australia.
“These new bus service contracts are going to deliver better, faster and more frequent services for South Australians,” said Minister for Transport, Stephan Knoll.
Further information about the faster and more frequent services will be soon released and an extensive community consultation will be undertaken from April.
The New Network, Stage 2, is proposed to be introduced across most areas later this year, driving faster services, a simpler network and enabling a greater emphasis on an integration across all modes.
The New Network for Outer North will coincide with the completion of Gawler rail electrification, focused on feeding services to the Gawler rail line and optimising transport in the northern suburbs.
The contracts have been awarded with customers at the forefront and a focus on delivering optimised services, value for money and innovative transport solutions.
