A new rail company in France: TRSI obtains safety certificate

Transdev subsidiary Transdev Rail Sud Inter-Métropoles (TRSI) has just been awarded its unique safety certificate (CSU) by the French Etablissement public de sécurité ferroviaire (EPSF).

Issued for a period of 5 years (until August 25, 2029), it recognizes that TRSI is able, through its operational organization and the means implemented, to ensure the safe management of its activities with the required level of safety.

The link between Marseille, Toulon and Nice is the first regional rail line in France to be awarded to competition. Won by Transdev in November 2021, it will start operating in summer 2025.

At the request of the French Southern Region, Transdev will double the transportation offer, with 15 round-trip connections per day and a wider range of timetables. This line is resolutely part of the ecological transition, with 100% green train traction energy of French origin.

“The unique safety certificate we have just been awarded gives our subsidiary TRSI the status of a fully-fledged railway company. This serious recognition honors and obliges us. It is the fruit of Transdev’s own collaborative and decentralized work, between our operational managers and our national safety center. From Nice to Marseille, we will be ensuring that trains run at regular intervals, with our staff paying constant attention to passengers and safety,” said Edouard Hénaut, CEO of Transdev France.

In addition, since 2013, Transdev has had its own rail training organization, approved by the EPSF and authorized to train railway drivers and personnel in charge of safety tasks. Drivers will also be trained in eco-driving.

The next key milestones before the Marseille-Toulon-Nice line goes into service will be the continuation of driver training, the opening of the new maintenance and storage site, the delivery of the first trainset at the end of 2024, pre-operation and finally the commercial launch scheduled for summer 2025.

The advent of a new rail company in France is an important milestone for Transdev Group, which has been a major rail operator for over 25 years, transporting more than 320 million passengers by train every year in five countries: Germany, France, New Zealand, the Netherlands, and Sweden. This long-standing expertise in international rail operations will be put to good use in the heart of the French Southern Region.
