Polish railway infrastructure manager PKP PLK announced that it had laid a new track on the 300-m bridge over the Bug River, on the Sadown – Czyżew rail section, part of Warsaw-Białystok line which will form the Rail Baltica corridor. This is part of the modernisation project of 35 km section of Rail Baltica, with a PLN 569 million (EUR 132.7 million) investment, co-financed through CEF.
The new bridge over the Bug River is the largest and more interesting object on the Sadowne – Czyżew section. The investment eliminates the bottleneck on the railway network, accommodating a larger number of trains. The bridge has a length of 300m, with five 60-m long spans and a 3000-tonnes weigh. On the modernized section, new bridges over the Bojewka and Nowa Treblinka River were built.
On Sadowne – Czyżew section, the company rebuilt the platforms at Sadowne and Małkinia stations and at four stops. All these stations received new shelters and benches, new lightning systems, and new passenger information systems. All platforms have been adapted to the needs of people with reduced mobility.
New tracks and traction network were laid out on the 35-km section, more than 40 new turnouts have been installed, equipped with an electric heating system. In addition, a new local control center was built at the Małkinia station and the modern installed devices and systems will increase the level of railway safety.
After completion of all work, scheduled for the second quarter of 2020, and obtaining the required administrative permits, on the Sadowne – Czyżew section, passenger trains will run at speeds of 160 km/h and freight trains with up to 120 km/h.
Sadowne – Czyżew, is another modernized section on the Warsaw – Białystok line. The comprehensive modernisation of Rail Baltica will ensure efficient travel from Warsaw to Białystok, with passenger trains running at speeds of 160 km/h and freight trains, at 120 km/h. The increased speed will reduce the travel time to two hours.
The project is carried out under the “Works on the E75 railway line Sadowne-Czyżew section, along with the remaining works on the Warsawa Rembertów-Sadowne section” project. The value of the project is EUR 244 million, of which EUR 185.95 million is the European contribution, representing a 76.2% co-financing. The action involves upgrade and modernisation of E75 railway line on the Sadowne – Czyzew section and Warsaw Rembertow – Sadowne section, for a total of 102 km. It concerns a pre-identified project on Tallinn-Riga-Kaunas-Warsaw route, on the North Sea-Baltic Sea Core Network Corridor. The project included general construction works, the modernisation of the signalling system and the installation of ERTMS/ETCS system, securing by-pass routes and the acquisition of the needed land.
