Czech railway infrastructure manager, Správa železnic, has launched a tender for the reconstruction of a 4-km line section between the Lobzy part of Plzeň main station and Koterov station, which will no longer serve passenger transport when works are completed, being replaced with a newly built railway stop Plzeň-Slovany.
The tender is estimated at CZK 2.22 billion (EUR 86.4 million).
The project will increase the traffic speed to 120 km/h, from 100 km/h.
At Plzeň-Koterov the tracks will be reconfigured, consisting now of two main tracks and one relief track.
The new section will be connected to the completed reconstructed tracks at Plzeň Main Station, in direction to Prague. Under the project, the rail section to České Budějovice will be reconstructed.
After works completion, the passengers will start using the new Plzeň-Slovany stop which will offer a better connection to the urban transport lines. Two platforms 120 metres long with a boarding edge at a standard height of 550 mm above the track will be built.
