Serbia prepares EUR 2 billion railway projects

Serbia’s Ministry of Transport is preparing the technical documentation for the construction and reconstruction of 520 km of railway lines, with a total value of EUR 1.9 billion and plans to reconstruct another 850 km of tracks.

The country is currently implementing railway projects for modernisation and reconstruction of 370 km of tracks which have a value of EUR 1 billion.

All of these projects have a total value of EUR 3.3 billion and are part of the 2025 railway strategy announced by the President Aleksandar Vučić on 28th December 2019.

“Infrastructure and transport are the most important part of our economic activities,” said Zorana Mihajlovic, the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, during a meeting with a delegation of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Under the Serbia 2025 strategy, EUR 9 billion will be available for transport infrastructure projects.

“We are aware that Serbia is embarking on a new investment cycle and that infrastructure is a big part of that plan. We believe that further investments in infrastructure will contribute to further economic growth of the country,” said Martijin Jan Kees, the IMF Head of Mission.
