Belgian rail freight operator, Lineas, is the newest ERFA member, which is believed to enhance ERFA’s position as a strong voice for private and independent rail freight companies at EU level.
As the objectives of Lineas and ERFA are well aligned, the operator will have a key role to play in the creation of a truly liberalised and competitive European Rail Freight market.
“We strongly believe that private rail freight players will make the difference in Europe. As private companies we have a unique customer mind-set to deliver innovative products that convince our customers to shift from road to rail. We look forward to working with ERFA to strengthen the sector and attract private investors who will help us grow and realize the modal shift,” Lineas CEO, Geert Pauwels, said.
Lineas’ flagship product is the Green Xpress Network which daily provides, fast and reliable rail connections between major European hubs, combining different types of cargo into one train. The Green Xpress Network was launched in 2014 and now has 20 connections.
Lineas employs over 2.100 people and owns a fleet of 250 locomotives and 7.000 wagons. The company’s shareholders are independent private equity group Argos Wityu (90%) and NMBS/SNCB (10%).
Geert Pauwels has recently won the 2020 European Railway Award for its contribution to the development of Belgian rail freight market.
