Helsinki public transport operator HKL selected CAF to deliver 5 new M300 series metro trains including the supply of spare parts. They will be delivered in 2022.
The new 4-car metro trains will be similar to the already existing 20 CAF trains, increasing the current Helsinki metro fleet from 45 to 50 trains.
The 90m-long trains will have a capacity for 575 passengers. They will be fully accessible from end to end facilitating passenger circulation between cars on route.
In 2023, Helsinki will open the Matinkylä-Kivenlahti metro section, which is the second phase of the West Metro project, involving the construction of a 7-km line served by 5 new stations.
In November 2017, the Ruoholahti – Matinkylä section of the West Metro project was put into operation.
