The Managing Director of Delhi Metro Rail Corp, Mangu Singh, has inaugurated the construction works for Magenta line extension at Haiderpur Badli Mor station (on the Yellow Line), as part of the Phase 4 development programme.
In November, the first civil contract was awarded for the construction of a section on the 29-km Janakpuri West – R. K Ashram Marg corridor, known as the extension of Magenta Line (Line 8). The contract includes construction of 10 elevated stations. The work involves the part design and construction of an elevated viaduct, siding line and station buildings from Keshopur to Haiderpur Badli Mor.
The work on this corridor is expected to be completed within 30 months. The 29 km long Janakpuri West – R. K Ahsram Marg corridor is an extension of Magenta Line and will come up with 22 stations.
The tenders for the remaining stations of this corridor are also nearing completion. Tenders for civil construction have already been floated for the other planned corridors and two more contracts have already been awarded.
As part of this particular contract, three interchange stations will be constructed. They will have connections with the Green, Red and Yellow lines.
In addition, the entire Janakpuri West – R. K Ahsram Marg corridor will comprise of three more interchange stations with Pink, Yellow and Blue lines. In total, the entire corridor will have six interchange stations.
Three corridors of Phase 4 have been approved under which, 61.68 km of new metro lines will be constructed across three different corridors comprising of 45 metro stations. All these new sections will provide connections to the existing Delhi metro lines.
The three corridors under the Phase 4:
Aerocity – Tughlakabad: 20.2 km, of which 14.6 km underground and a 5.6 km elevated section; 15 stations
R. K Ashram – Janakpuri West: 28.9 km, of which 7.7 km underground and a 21.2 km elevated section; 22 stations
Maujpur – Majlis Park: a 12.5 km fully elevated line; 8 stations.
