The City of Helsinki and Helsinki City Transport selected a consortium consisting of YIT, NRC Group Finland Oy, Ramboll Finland Oy and Sitowise Oy for the Crown Bridges LRT project. The total contract value for the alliance consortium is EUR 110–370 million, depending on the related projects.
The consortium will perform the final design for the light rail project, as well as the implementation plan. The companies will determine the target cost and the incentive system during the alliance development phase which will take 18 months.
A competitive bidding process will be carried out in 2020–2021 for the two bridges connecting Kalasatama and Kruunuvuorenranta and for earth-moving and construction on the intermediate island of Korkeasaari, to be implemented as an all-in contract.
The construction of the Crown Bridges LRT may begin in 2021 and the goal is to complete the construction in 2026, but the project timetable will be defined in more detail in 2021.
The project envisages the construction of a 10-km light rail line linking Helsinki’s Laajasalo, Korkeasaari and Kalasatama districts to the centre. Under the project, three bridges will be constructed. At the same time, the connection will provide a new maritime route for cyclists and pedestrians.
