Infrastructure Ontario (IO) and Metrolinx awarded Mobilinx consortium the CAD 4.6 billion (USD 3.5 billion) contract for the construction of Hurontario LRT, in Greater Toronto Area. The contract requires Mobilinx to design, build, finance, operate and maintain the new transit project for a 30-year term.
The project envisages the construction of an 18-km light rail line, 22 stops and one maintenance and storage facility, located south of Highway 407 and west of Kennedy Road. The line will offer transport connection between Port Credit GO Station in Mississauga to the Gateway Terminal at Steeles Avenue in Brampton. The line will cross the communities across Mississauga and Brampton.
The Mobilinx consortium includes:
• Applicant lead: John Laing Investments, Astaldi Canada Enterprises, Hitachi Rail STS, Transdev North America, Amico Concessions, Salini Impregilo Canada;
• Construction: Astaldi Canada Design & Construction, Hitachi Rail STS Canada, Amico Infrastructures, Bot Infrastructure, Salini Impregilo Civil Works;
• Design: IBI Group Professional Services (Canada), Hitachi Rail STS, Morrison Hershfield, Arcadis Canada, Daoust Lestage, Exp Services;
• Operation maintenance & rehabilitation provider: Transdev Services Canada, Hitachi Rail STS Canada, Astaldi Canada Enterprises, Salini Impregilo;
• Financial advisor: National Bank, HSBC.
Design work will soon begin and major construction is expected to be launched in early 2020. It is expected that the line will be completed in 2024.
The line will be operated by Alstom’s Citadis Spirit LRVs under a contract awarded in 2017. Metrolinx and Alstom signed a EUR 355 million contract for the supply of 61 Citadis Spirit LRVs, for Finch West and Hurontario light rail projects.

We know construction will be challenging, but I look forward to getting shovels in the ground and trains running up and down our City’s busiest corridor soon,” said Mississauga Mayor, Bonnie Crombie.
Hurontario LRT via a public-private partnership contract. Mobilinx will operate and maintain the system, while it will remain publicly owned by Metrolinx, the transport agency in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area.
