The city of Avignon, in south-eastern France, has inaugurated on October 19, the first tramway line of Grand Avignon, operated by 14 Alstom’s Citadis X05 tram in its short version.
The 5.4 km double-track line served by 10 stations offers transport connection between Saint Roch and Saint Chamand.
The tramway line was officially opened in the presence of Elisabeth Borne, the Minister of the Ecological and Solidarity Transition, Renaud Muselier, President of Région Sud, Maurice Chabert, President of the Vaucluse Department, Patrick Vacaris, President of Grand Avignon, Cécile Helle, Mayor of Avignon, Jean-Marc Roubaud, President of Técélys and Jean-Baptiste Eyméoud, President of Alstom France.
EUR 135 million is the value of the project
In 2017, Greater Avignon Agglomeration and Tecelys selected NGE group and Alstom for the civil works and tracks contract, covering the design, supply and installation of the civil works platforms and track. The project included 10.8 km of track, with 8 corresponding track turnouts, 10 stations and a maintenance centre.
In 2018, Alstom has unveiled the Citadis X05 tram for Grand Avignon, which is 24 metres long and is equipped with 4 double doors on each side. The full low floor tram has a capacity for 140 passengers. The tram has large bay windows covering 40% of the tram, LEDs with diffusers for soft, homogenous lighting, a state-of-the-art information system, large seats, air conditioning, and a video protection system.
The Citadis X05 is particularly energy efficient and up to 99% recyclable.
