Škoda Transportation is the winner of the contract for the supply of 45 six-car metro trains to Warsaw, after long administrative and judicial proceedings. The total value of the project is CZK 8 billion (EUR 311.76 million).
“It was confirmed that our offer was the best. This is a breakthrough contract for urban rail vehicles. The Warsaw tender was one of the largest in Europe, but we waited for the decision for over two years,” said Petr Brzezina, President of Škoda Transportation group.
In 2018, Metro Warszawskie selected Škoda Transportation to supply the new metro trains, but the decision was contested. The company won the contract over the current fleet supplier for Warsaw, Siemens-Newag consortium, as well as Stadler, Alstom and CAF.
It is expected that the first metro train will be delivered in the first 20 months after signing the contract, followed by the delivery of 37 metro trains within 53 months.
The new trains will be able to run at speeds of 90 km/h and will allow full electrodynamic braking in all occupancy modes with a preference of regenerative braking, in which power is transferred back to the power system.
They will be equipped with camera system, external and internal audiovisual information system. The metro trains will be adapted to the passengers with reduced mobility, with special places for wheelchair users and will also include compartments for baby carriages and bicycles.
The aluminum-body train will have a total length of 118.2 meters with each car having a length of 20 meters.
