PKP Cargo has signed with Newag – Newag Lease consortium a contract for the supply of 31 Dragon 2 six-axle locomotives, valuated at PLN 518.9 million (EUR 119.4 million).
The contract envisages the delivery of 7 electric locomotives, equipped with diesel access modules and 24 new dual-voltage locomotives equipped with 3 kV DC and 25 kV 50 Hz AC power systems.
The seven locomotives will be delivered this year. Under the dual-voltage locomotive order, 12 will be delivered in 2021 and other 12 in 2022, and will be certified to operate in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
The E6ACTa Dragon 2 locomotive is fully compliant with the Technical Specifications for Interoperability (TSI 2014) and equipped with ETCS Level 2. They are equipped with silicon carbide (SiC) traction converters, ensuring smooth operation at high temperatures, reducing noise levels and energy loss by 50%.
