The consortium of Eurovia, Strabag Rail and Elektrizace železnic Praha signed a EUR 120 million contract for the upgrade of Prague Smíchov- Èernošice rail section. The 8.7 km rail section links the Smíchov station in Prague and the city of Èernošice southwest of the capital.
The contract covers the refurbishment of the track sub-structure, reconstruction of overhead contact lines, bridges and railbeds, modernisation of telecommunication and safety equipment, widening of some portions of the line and renovation of the infrastructure and platforms of several Prague stations such as Smíchov, Radotín and Velká Chuchle.
The works are expected to be completed in 2022, when conventional trains will be able to run at speeds of 100-130 km/h and tilting trains at 120-140 km/h.
The rail section, which lies along a very busy line, is part of the Czech Republic’s third railway transit corridor.
