Siemens to provide DB Cargo locomotive maintenance services

DB Cargo and Siemens Mobility agreed to cooperate on predictive maintenance and repairs for over 250 locomotives. The operator said that “this is the first time in Europe that a manufacturer and a rail operator continue to exchange technical data after the vehicles have been delivered.
In January, the two companies signed a contract for the supply of 100 multisystem locomotives, with an initial call for 40 Vectron multisystem locomotives. The deliveries will be completed in June 2020.
The locomotives ordered by DB Cargo have a maximum output of 6.4 megawatts and a top speed of 160 km/h and are equipped with the required national train control systems as well as the European Train Control System (ETCS).
In 2017, DB Cargo had ordered 60 locomotives from Siemens.
Another agreement signed between the two companies envisages the implementation of a digitalization project. DB Cargo has commissioned Siemens Mobility to equip 30,000 freight cars with its CTmobile freight sensor solution. The contract includes an option to equip up to 50,000 freight cars.
DB Cargo owns the largest European rolling stock fleet, comprising 2,686 locomotives and almost 83,000 freight cars.
In 2018, the company has transported 255 million tonnes of cargoes, recording a EUR 4.17 billion revenue.
