PKP Cargo received three Vectron locomotives

On July 19, PKP Cargo has received three Vectron MS locomotives from Siemens Mobility. In total the Polish operator will have a fleet of 20 such locomotives.
The three locomotives are part of the exercised option for 5 Vectron MS locomotives which took place in January. The next two vehicles are expected to be delivered at the beginning of 2020.
In September 2015, PKP Cargo and Siemens signed a contract for the supply of 15 Vectron MS locomotives, with the option for five more.
The modern Vectron MS locomotives purchased by PKP Cargo have a capacity of 6.4 MW, a top speed of 160 km/h and are equipped with ETCS. They are approved for operation in Poland, Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania and Hungary.
“The new locomotives will strengthen our operational capabilities especially on international markets. We will be able to more efficiently serve connections within the New Silk Road and Three Seas Initiative. These are our priority directions of international expansion, as according to the strategy adopted in that year, PKP Cargo aims to acquire the position of the leader of the intermodal market within the next few years. That is why we invest in the procurement of new locomotives and intermodal platforms,” said Czesław Warsewicz, the president of PKP Cargo.
