More than EUR 86 billion will be spent in the next ten years for railway modernisation in Germany, according to sources from Berlin.
The German State will invest EUR 62 billion to rebuild the national railway network in the next 10 years and Deutsche Bahn is expected to contribute with another EUR 24.2 billion.
The 10-year plan is “the most complex railway modernisation programme” in Germany’s history, German Minister of Transport Andreas Scheuer announced. This programme will be the foundation for “an active climate protection”. Germany has been repeatedly criticised for not spending enough on investments despite its significant financial resources.
