Adif and Adif AV signed EUR 1.2 billion contracts for the development and modernisation of the Mediterranean Corridor, during the first 9 months of 2019. The projects will significantly contribute to the development of rail freight traffic and ports’ rail connections and will lead to the reduction of travel times and environmental impact.
Of the total EUR 1.2 billion commitment investment, in the first three months Adif signed EUR 272.6 million contracts and in the second quarter, EUR 931.7 million.
Between January and June, a total of 53 contracts have been awarded, 21 of them corresponding to the execution of works, 3 to the drafting projects, 16 for material supply and the remaining 13 to consulting services and technical assistance.
To this figure, an investment of EUR 396 million (including VAT) is added, for the bidding of another 31 contracts.
The contracts are funded through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and CEF.
framed in the development and configuration of the Mediterranean Corridor within the 2014-2020 period are co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER) through the P.O. Plurirregional of Spain, Thematic Objective 7: Sustainable transport and the “Connect Europe” Mechanism (CEF).
Under the CEF, Spain has received EUR 124.5 million for the implementation of UIC gauge on Valencia-Tarragona-Barcelona section (first phase), on Mediterranean Corridor. EUR 311.2 million were the eligible costs of the project.
Also on Mediterranean Corridor, CEF provided EUR 57 million for the implementation of the UIC gauge on Castellbisbal- NudoVilaseca section. The eligible costs of the project had a value of EUR 285 million.
