Advanced World Transport (AWT), member of PKP Cargo, completed the third modernisation phase of Paskov terminal in the Czech Republic. CZK 450 million (EUR 17.57 million) is the value of the investment, of which CZK 151 million (EUR 5.9 million) were covered by the EU funds, and CZK 12 million (EUR 468 thousand) was provided by the state.
Located near industrial zones bordering Poland and Slovakia, the modernised terminal has an area of 70 thousand m², a storage capacity of 4800 TEU containers, with five tracks, totalling 1.35 km (three 270-m tracks and two 375m).
The terminal serves both AWT and external companies, ensuring the transshipment services, receipt, distribution and repair of light containers as well as train service and container storage.
The Paskov terminal has nine vehicles for container handling with the option of stacking up to five layers of containers, not only ordinary ISO containers, but also road trailers and swap bodies. The terminal has parking spaces for 130 trailers, and a special place for containers with dangerous goods.
The terminal’s strategic location – in the heart of Europe, facilitates and speeds up the connection to major European ports and terminals. The Paskov terminal is located close to the motorway and has a railway connection to the Czech national railway network.
“Currently, in the north-south axis is the most frequent direction of intermodal shipments. They come from the ports of Koper, Trieste and Gdańsk, and potential destinations for such shipments may be Scandinavia or transport services from the Greek port of Piraeus” Michał Kubicek, director of Paskov Terminal, said.
The terminal was previously constructed in 2007. The first stage of its expansion was carried out in 2008-2009, and the second phase in 2011-2012. In February 2018, the third stage of the terminal’s modernization began.
The fourth modernisation and expansion phase will be launched in July 2019 and after this phase, the terminal transshipment area will increase to 150,000 m², and the storage capacity of containers for up to 10,000 TEU.
