Infrastructure Ontario and Metrolinx announced that four teams have been prequalified to bid on the On-Corridor works project as part of the GO Rail expansion programme which will provide more travel options for Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA) residents and commuters. Upon delivery, the GO rail expansion programme will provide faster, more frequent, two-way, all-day service on core segments of the GO rail network.
EnTransit, MTR Kiewit Partners, ONcore Transit, ONxpress Transportation Partners are the four prequalified consortia.
The scope of the On-Corridor works project includes operation of train services including train driving, timetable planning for all operators across the GO-owned rail network, the design, build, finance, integration, maintenance and rehabilitation of the railway corridor, the reconstruction of Union Station track and platforms, compliance with Metrolinx safety, security and emergency management policies. The project also has a rolling stock component which envisages the refurbishment and maintenance services, as well as the procurement of new trains, including the construction of a new maintenance and train storage facility.
The On-Corridor works project is a part of the Province’s GO rail expansion programme that will transform the existing GO rail network into a world class rail system, create vibrant communities and provide greater opportunities for local jobs and business investment in the Greater Golden Horseshoe.
The GO rail expansion programme will introduce faster, more efficient trains that will be up to 29 per cent faster than the current GO Transit fleet – which means more travel choices and more time for the things that matter for commuters and people who rely on transit.
The o-Corridor works project is the next stage in the GO rail expansion programme and will be delivered in partnership with Infrastructure Ontario. It is a 35-year Private-Public Partnership contract to design, build, finance, operate and maintain the infrastructure and technology required to deliver future service levels on the GO Transit rail network. Through this process the government will continue to maintain ownership of the network.
