The European Commissioner for Regional Policy Corina Cretu has announced on February 13 that EUR 517 million financing was approved for Bucharest Metro Line 6, linking the Central Station (Gara de Nord) with Henri Coanda Airport. The line will have a total length of 14 km and 12 stations.
This approved European co-financing will support the construction works for the first 6-km section and 6 stations, between the existing 1 Mai station and Tokyo station, which will be constructed at Baneasa Commercial Center. In addition, the funds will also support the acquisition of 12 six-car metro train sets
The construction works on the 1 Mai – Tokyo section of Line 6 will be launched in the second half of 2019 and, according to project’s timeline, is scheduled to be completed within 48 months.
The total estimated value of the project is EUR 1.4 billion.
The new line will have a connection at Central Station with the existing Line 4.
The project was proposed for European financing under the Large Infrastructure Operational Programme (LIOP), for which, the European Commissioner approved in December 2018 the amendment that will allow the European financing for Romania’s important infrastructure projects.
