PKP Cargo signed a PLN 112 million (EUR 26 million) contract for the acquisition of 5 Vectron multisystem locomotives from Siemens Mobility. The contract that includes maintenance services, is an option of the initial contract signed in September 2015 under which PKP Cargo bought 15 Vectron MS locomotives with the right to purchase another 5 vehicles. The first locomotives will be delivered in the middle of this year.
The locomotives, with a top speed of 160 km/h and equipped with an ETCS will be used on north- south corridor.
“By purchasing 5 Vectron multisystem locomotives we implement our development strategy and our goal to strengthen our position on the market, including on the north-south corridor. This acquisition is also a response to the needs of the market and to the dynamically growing intermodal transport,” Czesław Warsewicz, the CEO of PKP Cargo said.
“Thanks to these locomotives, PKP Cargo can certainly build a competitive advantage not only in Poland, but also throughout Europe,” Krzysztof Celiński, director of Siemens Mobility Sp. z o.o.
In Poland, Vectron locomotives are operated by PKP Cargo, DB Cargo Polska and Lotos Kolej – leased from Industrial Division. In total, 44 Vectron locomotives were purchased in Poland.
