Advanced World Transport (AWT), member of PKP Cargo Group, signed an agreement for the purchase of 80 percent of shares in Primol-Rail, a Slovenian company. The acquisition of the majority of Primol-Rail shares, which has a license to perform rail transport services in Slovenia, opens up new opportunities for the PKP Cargo Group to increase its presence on north-south of Europe rail freight market.
“The contract creates opportunities for the PKP Cargo Group to enter new markets with an attractive transport offer and increase the volume of transport, Maciej Walczyk, President of the Board of AWT, said.
As the Group has a license to operate independently in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Austria, it can now run trains from Poland up to the Slovenian-Italian border and to the Slovenian port of Koper, one of the largest ports on the Adriatic, using only one multi-system locomotive.
AWT served about 10 trains a week in relation to the border with Slovenia, where the warehouse was taken over by the local subcontractor. The number of such trains can be increased, which will allow PKP Cargo to provide transport services between the countries lying from the Baltic to the Adriatic.
