7 consortia and two companies submitted the documents and technical proposals for the first stage of Almaty light rail project. The bidders who were interested in the project are coming from Japan, France, Russia, Turkey, Spain, China and Kazakhstan.
The 9 bidders are:
• CMC (China) comprising CMC China National Machinery Import & Export Corporation and CRCC16 China Railway 16th Bureau Group Co, Ltd.;
• Alstom Kazakhstan (France, Japan, Turkey) formed by Marubeni Corporation, Alstom Kazakhstan, Gulermak, Meridiam;
• Renaissance Construction (Russia) comprising Renaissance Construction and PK Тransport systems;
• CRBE (China) formed by CRBE China Railway Beijing Engineering Group Co., Ltd Overseas Company and CRL China Railway Liuyuan Group Co., Ltd;
• ITOCHU Corporation (Japan, Spain, Turkey) comprising Itochu Corporation, CAF and Makyol;
• CITIC (China, Kazakhstan) formed by Temirzhol Zhondeu, CITIC China International Trust Investment Corporation and CCECC China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation;
• CMEC (China) comprising CMEC China Machinery Engineering Corporation, CHSR China High Speed Railway Technology Co. Ltd., CRCC22 China Railway 22th Bureau Group Co, Ltd.
• ENKA (Turkey)
• Norinko (China)
The tender on the design, development, construction, commissioning, financing, operation and maintenance of the LRT system was announced in October 2018.
Almaty light rail project envisages the construction of 22 km and 36 stations, with a total of 71 platforms and a depot in Alatau district. The line will link Almaty’s principal avenues, passing through Momyshuly and Tole bi streets, Panfilov street to Astana square, and down Makatayev and Zhetysuskaya streets.
36 light rail vehicles will operate the system and are expected to transport 76 000 — 112 000 passengers a day.
