Odense Letbane, the public transport authority of Odense, selected Keolis to operate and maintain the new light rail network of Odense. The 14.5 km LRT line and the 26 stations will be opened by the end of 2020.
The 15-year contract will generate a cumulative revenue of approximately EUR 230 million.
Odense Letbane is expected to confirm their decision in the following days with the signing of the contract to follow before Christmas.
“We are pleased to be involved in the opening of Denmark’s second light rail network, which will make the city of Odense an even more attractive place to live and work,” Bernard Tabary, International CEO Keolis said.
Odese LRT network will link Tarup located in the north of the city to Hjallese in the south with a 42 minutes journey. It will run through the city centre and serve the central train station, the international homeware retailer Ikea and Odense university.
The line will be operated by 16 Variobahn trams, supplied by Stadler, each with a capacity of 210 passengers. It is expected that the line will be used by 12 million passengers per year.
Odense LRT network is the second one in Denmark, after Aarhus LRT, opened in December 2017.
