NSW Government awarded Systems Connect joint venture, comprising CPB Contractors and UGL, a AUD 1.37 billion contract (USD 995.5 million) for the design, construction and commissioning of Sydney Metro City & Southwest, from Chatswood to Sydenham. This is the second stage of Sydney metro system.
Works are due to commence this year and are scheduled to be completed in 2024.
The line-wide works package envisages major rail systems in the new twin 15-km Sydney Metro tunnels from Chatswood to Sydenham, the expansion of the existing Sydney Metro Trains Facility at Rouse Hill including the construction of the new train facility at Marrickville. The contract also includes the installation of the tunnel ventilation, mechanical and electrical systems for seven underground stations, and power systems for the Sydenham to Bankstown section.
The Chatswood – Sydenham metro line is expanding the city’s new metro railway system into the CBD and beyond to Bankstown. The new stations will be delivered at Crows Nest, Victoria Cross, Barangaroo, Martin Place, Pitt Street and Waterloo along with new underground platforms at Central Station.
Currently, Sydney is carrying out the first phase of metro system, the Sydney Metro Northwest, with major construction works at the 16 construction sites along the project alignment. This fully-automated metro line will be opened in the second quarter of 2019.
In 2024, Sydney will have a 66-km metro network served by 31 stations.
