The people outside the Romanian capital of Bucharest can use the parking for RON 1/hour while having access to the metro network for connection with the city. Moreover, from Straulesti Terminal, users have access to surface public transport too.
On 12 November, Metrorex, Bucharest metro transport company, put into service Straulesti Multimodal Depot and Terminal, part of Line 4. Link 2. Parc Bazilescu Section (PS Zarea) – Straulesti project.
The construction of Bucharest’s first multimodal terminal aimed to improve environment conditions by reducing pollution and decongesting traffic in the capital. Thus, the automotive vehicles entering the capital will be able to use the parking and passengers will have direct and rapid access to the city’s public transport (underground and overground) and to interurban transport for destinations outside the capital. The parking fee is of RON 1/hour (0.21 eurocents/hour).
The construction of Straulesti Multimodal Depot and Terminal was financed from the state budget and amounted to around RON 363 million, VAT included (EUR 78 million), including the surface arrangements.
Straulesti multimodal terminal has a ground floor and three storeys and can accommodate 660 cars. It also has a waiting room for public and interurban transport riders and a bus station with 11 parking spaces. The terminal is equipped with access elevators in the overground parking, as well as with direct access to Straulesti metro station through an underground gallery equipped with mobile pedestrian ways and luminaries with natural light.
Straulesti Depot has a surface of 11,000 square metres and 13 lines where 7 trains can be parked or repaired simultaneously. Additional green areas have also been arranged, as well as a sports field.
The depot includes the spaces necessary to rolling stock maintenance shops, bedrooms with natural light for drivers, as well as necessary technical equipment (lathe, lifting jacks, travelling cranes, pits, train washing sidings etc.).
The connection gallery includes the turnouts which make possible the access shunting to each line of the depot, such as the parking entrance and exit shunting, the shunting for the washing operation or the shunting for the turning of wheels.
The extension of Bucharest metropolitan area through Line 4. Link 2. Parc Bazilescu Section (PS Zarea) – Straulesti Metro Line and of the Multimodal Terminal will help ease surface traffic from neighbouring localities (Mogosoaia, Buftea), which experience a significant increase of population.
