Slovakia’s rail infrastructure manager, ŽSR, has opened a new intermodal terminal in Lužianky, in the Nitra District in western central Slovakia.
TIP Lužianky consists of three separate functional units: rail expedition, warehouse and container intermediate.
The TIP Lužianky has a surface of 50,000 square metres which will allow the storage of products and the rail infrastructure is formed by four 700-metre expedition tracks, completed by a double-deck loading ramp. It is connected to the Lužianky station which is situated at a distance of 2.15 km and is connected to the TIP Lužianky by a single-track non-electrified track.
The eastern part of the terminal is directly connected to Jaguar Land Rover Slovakia, and in the north part is the expedition railway area.
The terminal was designed by Prodex spol and the construction was performed by Strabag s.r.o. The project had a cost of EUR 39.9 million and project documentation and engineering activity have a value of EUR 1.8 million. 
The TIP Lužianky was financed by ŽSR under three funds obtained from other commercial activities realized in previous periods.
The terminal is mainly serving automotive industry, Jaguar Land Rover Slovakia being the currently largest contractual partner. This year, the company has extended its activity in Slovakia by moving production of the Land Rover Discovery SUV and other models to the Lužianky facility with a capacity to manufacture up to 150,000 vehicles per year. ŽSR signed two contracts with Jaguar Land Rover, one for the lease of a finished product warehouse and another one for the provision of services related to the transport of finished products. In both cases, long-term contracts are valid until the end of 2048. ŽSR expects TIP Lužianky to bring revenues to the company’s budget of at least EUR 2.7 mililion, with peak yields reaching EUR 3.5 million per year. ŽSR expects earnings of over EUR 100 million.
