The German public transport company Schöneicher-Rüdersdorf Straßenbahn GmbH (SRS) and Škoda Transtech finalised the agreement on the supply of two Artic pre-series trams, fully produced in Finland.
The contract was signed in Schöneiche, a municipality in the Oder-Spree District of Brandenburg on the eastern edge of Berlin.
The Škoda ForCity Smart Artic vehicles are also operating for the first time in passenger traffic after receiving homologation in Germany. These are the first Škoda trams that received homologation in Germany.
The sale of two ForCity Smart Artic pre-series vehicles was established in cooperation with Helsinki City Transport (HKL) and thanks to the support of Voith Digital Solutions Austria GmbH & Co KG following a two-month trial period.
“In addition to Chemnitz and Rhein-Neckar-Verkehr, Schöneiche is the third city where trams from Škoda Transportation will be in operation. This is Škoda’s first tram to receive homologation in Germany according to BoStrab,”said Zdeněk Majer, Chairman of Škoda Transtech.
The ForCity Smart Artic Helsinki tram is based on an original idea of Helsinki City Transport (HKL) and has been developed in collaboration between HKL and Škoda Transtech.
In August, Transtech has leased the ForCity Smart Artic pre-series vehicle #402 for a four-month trial period to Schöneicher-Rüdersdorf Straßenbahn GmbH. It was the second time when a tram fully produced in Finland was tested on German tracks. The vehicle completed several test-drives regarding accessibility and infrastructure compatibility with the support of Voith Digital Solutions Austria GmbH.
