During the meeting of 21 September, Arad Mayor Gheorghe Falca will submit to the vote of local councillors a project for the procurement of 10 new trams in the next two years, as well as the framework contracting strategy regarding the acquisition of electric rolling stock.
“Local councillors will vote on the procurement of 10 trams – 4 double-articulated, high-capacity trams and 6 medium-capacity trams. The vehicles will add to the current fleet of 6 Imperio trams, manufactured by Astra Vagoane Calatori Arad”, said Mayor Gheorghe Falca.
In July, Arad announced it would purchase 28 new trams and upgrade 20 units of the existing tram fleet, operated by Arad Public Transport Company.
“We have already launched the procurement of 28 new trams in the next four years and we are now submitting the documentation in the Public Procurement Electronic System. We hope to receive the first 10 trams by 2020 and the rest of the trams up to 28 until 2022”, added the Mayor of Arad.
Total investments amount to over EUR 57 million with the financing coming from European funds through the Regional Operational 2014-2020, priority axis 4 – Supporting Sustainable Urban Development.
