Grampet Group, the largest private railway and logistics operator in Romania and South-East Europe, joins the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route – TITR Association, a project initiated by the governments of China, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan to develop a new multimodal transport corridor linking Asia to Europe.
The accession of Grampet-GFR Group to the Trans-Caspian Route is a premiere for the European railway industry.
“We are honoured to join this partnership which brings us closer to the strategic objective that we shaped 20 years ago – that of creating a railway link between the North Sea and the East China Sea”, said Gruia Stoica, President of Grampet Group. “At that moment, we were just an entrepreneurial company in a small country, at the border between the two continents. Today, we are one of the European leaders of the profile industry and the first European company to become member of this strategic alliance”.
The railway operators of Grampet Group own and manage a fleet of almost 20,000 wagons and 400 locomotives. These operators carry an annual volume of almost 22 million tonnes of freight of which 20% at European level.
The company’s officials estimate that the accession to the Trans-Caspian Route will lead to the development of intermodal traffic both in Romania and in the neighbouring countries.
“By becoming a TITR member, Grampet Group completes the construction of a new China-European Union route. In fact, in this corridor, we are opening five countries from the community (Romania, Hungary, Bulgaria, Croatia and Austria), through the railway operators that are members of the group. It is a confirmation of the fact that in Romania too, there are private capital companies capable to participate in complex international projects”, underlines Sorin Chinde, General Manager Grup Feroviar Român.
“This alliance can transform Romania into a logistics platform for Europe and Asia, generating around 100,000 new jobs and contributions to the state budget of over EUR 1 billion”, added Gruia Stoica.
Grampet Group’s accession to TITR was announced during an event organised by Constanta Sea Port Administration and “Middle Corridor – Trans-Caspian International Transport Route” Association attended by tens of representatives of the Romanian transport industry, as well as members and partners of “Middle Corridor – Trans-Caspian International Transport Route” Association, including companies from China, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Georgia.
The Trans-Caspian International Transport Route has a total length of 9,500 km of which 860 km cross Romania’s territory (railway corridor IV, Port of Constanta – Curtici route). Initiated by the governments of China, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan, the project plans to develop multimodal transport connecting China, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey and Europe. The main objective of the association is to simplify administrative formalities by ensuring a competitive environment and providing support to companies from different countries to develop their business across the Trans-Caspian Corridor.
