Delhi Metro has opened a news section on the Pink Line, linking Lajpat Nagar station with Durgabai Deshmukh South Campus. It has a length of 8.1 km, served by 6 new stations, including interchange facilities with Yellow Line, at INA, and with the Violet Line, at Lajpat Nagar.
“We are starting metro transport services on the Pink Line from Durgabai Deshmukh South Campus to Lajpat Nagar. This section will connect the city’s prominent markets by Metro. The problem of parking in these markets will also be solved,” Delhi’s Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal, said at the opening ceremony.
The new section is considered an important public transport link as it connects important markets of the city such as Sarojini Nagar, INA, South Extension and Lajpat Nagar.
The new section is part of the 59 km-long Pink Line (Majlis Park-Shiv Vihar corridor) which falls under the Phase-III network of the Delhi Metro.
With the opening of this section, the total length of Delhi Metro network is 296 km with 214 metro stations.
