Aeroexpress, the company that, among others, provides rail transport services between the three airports in Moscow and the city center, has signed with the authorities in Sankt Petersburg an agreement on the construction and operation of a railway line between Pulkovo Airport and Vitebsk railway station in the city.
The project to create an Aeroexpress line in St. Petersburg will be implemented as a public-private partnership. The cost of the new construction is estimated at RUB 18.8 billion (USD 303.2 million). Private investment will be at least RUB 8.8 billion rubles (USD 142 million).
Authorities estimate that the project will be completed in 2022.
Passenger traffic at Pulkovo Airport is on the rise, in 2017 recording an increase of 21.6% over previous years. The Aeroexpress line will support the development of the airport, which is currently only accessible by public or private road transport.
“We are delighted with the idea of developing a modern, fast and safe Aeroexpress line in St. Petersburg. The line will be able to meet the requirements of all categories of passengers. The city will become more attractive and easily accessible for both residents and tourists,” Valery Fyodorov, Executive Director of Aeroexpress said.
