Strukton has been selected to design the depot and surrounding infrastructure at the port of Rotterdam for Mitsui Rail Capital Europe (MRCE) and Siemens’ joint venture for the servicing and maintenance of locomotives. Strukton is also the intended constructor for the project. The workshop is scheduled to open in the summer of 2019. Strukton has been chosen for the project because of its integrate knowledge and experience in the fields of road and rail infrastructure, buildings and rolling stock.
Siemens’ new Vectron locomotives will be maintained in the workshop, as part of the MRCE fleet. Additionally, the workshop will service and guarantee the maximum availability of third-party fleets with innovative maintenance technologies.
The location of the new workshop in the port of Rotterdam will enable rail operators to optimize their long-term planning of necessary service stops for locomotives on their routes. The port is an ideal location for servicing locomotives arriving from throughout Europe, and will eliminate long service transfer runs that cost time and money.
