What is the current new rolling stock demand in Romania? What are the financing sources used for procurement of new multiple-units, locomotives, freight and passenger wagons, trams or metro vehicles? How and how many European funds could we access for this purpose? Which difficulties are facing the rail transport operators, the independent transport companies, local companies or municipalities to upgrade the existing rolling stock fleet? What projects will they develop over the next period to ensure a sustainable mobility?
Last year, we announced that major contracts were signed for the rehabilitation and modernisation of rail infrastructure on Railway Corridor IV in Romania and, we were saying, at the end of the year, that we hoped to also announce rolling stock projects in 2018. And we do have projects to announce!
Bucharest Municipality continues the “100 trams for Bucharest” project. Moreover, most cities that still have an urban rail transport network plan to renew their rolling stock fleet by 2020-2022!
Cluj Municipality has launched the tender for the procurement of 22 new trams, Oradea will procure 10 new trams and other 20 second-hand trams, Iasi Municipality plans to put into service 12 new trams and Timisoara plans to buy 15 new trams, in a first stage. Braila, Botosani, Resita, Ploiesti, Arad, Craiova and Galati have also announced plans to upgrade their infrastructure and buy new trams.
