Italy’s Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport has allocated EUR 190.9 million for urban rail transport projects. Thus, Milan-Limbiate interurban railway has received EUR 40 million for modernisation works. In turn, Milan Municipality will contribute with EUR 103 million for the modernisation of the same railway.
Napoli will receive a EUR 38 million financing for the construction of a new depot for metro Line 6. The depot is necessary for the maintenance of the new metro trains to be put into operation on the 3.3-km extension to be inaugurated in April 2019.
The government will allocate EUR 36.4 million for the procurement of four metro trains for Line C in Rome which is currently being extended from Lodi to the Colosseum. Another extension to Fori Imperiali is also planned.
T2 tram line in Florence will also receive a EUR 29.9 million financing for the extension of its rolling track. The extension will be inaugurated in October 2018. The section will connect Piazza dell’Unità d’Italia, from the city centre to “Amerigo Vespucci” Airport, in the north-west of the city.
The metro system in Turin will receive a EUR 14.3 million financing for the acquisition of two trains, but it will also receive EUR 7.4 million for the extension of Collegno depot. Overall, six metro trains will be purchased in Turin, but in the first phase, financing has been approved for two of these trains.
Further on, the Italian Government allocates EUR 15 million for the procurement of additional metro trains for Genoa Metro. Three new such vehicles will be purchased.
The Government in Rome will also grant EUR 9.9 million for the modernisation of the metro in Catania.
