Romanian Minister of Transport, Lucian Sova, announced his participation in the conference “Development of railway markets in Central and South-Eastern Europe for 2030 and beyond” held on 14 and 15 March in Alba Iulia. The 13th edition of the event, organised by Club Feroviar, with the support of AIF (the Romanian Railway Industry Association), is the first of this year’s two Club Feroviar Conferences.
The conference in Alba Iulia brings together infrastructure managers, international and regional railway builders, project integrators and engineering and design companies, as well as representatives of the public sector.
Alba Iulia Conference is a two-day event.
In the first day, the three panels of debates will approach key subjects, such as the construction of a single, competitive and integrated system, as well as challenges and opportunities for railways in the digital era.
Also, the participants will find out about the progress of CFR SA projects on Corridor IV, the northern branch.
Direct dialogue with CFR SA and experienced builders is another significant advantage of the event in Alba Iulia.
Predictive maintenance, the preparation of projects for the EU budget post-2020, the launch of works on other sections of Railway Corridor IV, innovations in infrastructure maintenance technology or ERTMS Level 2 Deployment (challenges and benefits) are also among the topics to be approached during the first day of the conference.
The second day of conference will host the technical visits to Corridor IV worksites where infrastructure modernisation works are carried out by Alstom, FCC, Astaldi, Arcada, Aktor, Swietelsky, Strabag.
Participants will visit the worksites of Danes Tunnel (969 m, the longest rail tunnel built in Romania with European funds), Sighisoara Tunnel, Turdas Tunnel and Vintu de Jos station.
All these construction sites are located on Simeria – Coslariu – Sighisoara section, part of Corridor IV, the northern branch, where CFR SA carries out projects worth EUR 982 million. The rehabilitation and modernisation works on Corridor IV, on Arad – Simeria, are estimated at about EUR 2 billion.
It is important to say that CFR SA will soon announce the winner for the rehabilitation of another significant section on Corridor IV, Brasov – Sighisoara, with Brasov – Apata and Cata – Sighisoara sub-sections. Works are worth RON 3.19 billion VAT excluded (over EUR 700 million).
An open tender was launched in September CFR Marfa last year for the rehabilitation of Cata – Apata sub-section, part of the same Brasov – Sighisoara section. The total estimated cost of the contract is RON 2.86 billion, VAT excluded (EUR 623.24 million).
