Slovakia awards EMU contract

Slovak state-owned rail passenger operator (ZSSK) awarded Škoda Transportation-ŽOS Trnava consortium a EUR 160 million contract for the supply of 25 RegioPanter EMUs which will be deployed on Žilina regional railway network.
“Modern electric units are crucial for regional transport around Žilina and I am very pleased that we have successfully completed this important competition,” Filip Hlubocký, the Director General of ZSSK said.
Within the contract, two versions of EMU will be delivered, both being able to run at speeds of 160 km/h. The first one will have a length of 80m with a capacity of 247 seats and the second one will be 106m-long with a capacity of 343 seats. The new EMUs are designed as fully- accessible vehicles, without interior doors and wide entrance door, allowing an increased passenger flow. They will also be fitted with information systems and high-performance Wi-Fi.
Currently, 28 RegioPanter EMUs run on regional railway network in Czech Republic and this year Škoda will deliver 9 EMUs which will be put into commercial operation in Pilsen Region. In addition, 14 InterPanter EMUs are available on Czech railway network.
