Vectron locomotive for ÖBB presented

During a ceremony in Vienna, on March 5, Siemens handed over the first Vectron locomotive for ÖBB. At the beginning of 2017, ÖBB and Siemens signed a framework contract to deliver 200 Vectron locomotives with an initial batch of 30 multisystem locomotives.
“With the additional locomotives, we are well equipped for the further international expansion of the ÖBB Rail Cargo Group. The new Vectron locomotives enable us to increase our own traction in Europe, from the Czech Republic to Italy or from Germany to Slovenia,” Andreas Matthä, ÖBB-Holding AG Chairman of the Board of Management said at the ceremony.
Under the agreement between the two companies, up to 100 alternating current (AC) locomotives, 50 alternating current (AC) locomotives with diesel power modules, and 50 multisystem (MS) locomotives will be delivered. The locomotives will be built in the Siemens plant in Munich-Allach, Germany and will be equipped with the European Train Control System (ETCS).
They will be used for cross-border freight transport services in Austria, Czech Republic, Croatia, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia. The locomotives have a maximum output of 6,400 KW and a top speed of 160 km/h.
