Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) has awarded two contracts for electrical system and power supply system for the Mumbai Metro Line-3 (Colaba-Bandra-Seepz). This was done after obtaining clearance from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) as per procurement norms.
The MMRC has split the work in two packages in order to achieve faster execution. One package was awarded for the work of design, installation and commissioning of power supply works. The second package was awarded for design, installation and commissioning of ‘rigid overhead contact system and auxiliary substations.’
Larsen and Toubro Limited has been awarded the contract for the first package (power supply system), while a consortium of Alstom Transport India Limited and Alstom Transport S.A. has been awarded the works for the second package (25 kV AC traction system). The works consist of setting up three receiving substations, laying the overhead rigid contact system in the underground tunnel alignment of 33.5 km, commissioning the system in the control office and other associated works.
