Beijing acting mayor, Chen Jining, mentioned, in a report, that the city will open three more urban rail line this year.
Following the announcement, the urban rail network of China’s capital will exceed 630 km. This is one of the most important city’s strategy to ease traffic congestion and to reduce the impact on the environment.
At the end of 2017, Beijing has put into commercial operation three metro lines bringing the total length of urban rail system to 608 km. Beijing has 22 metro lines.
Currently, the metro Line 17 is the longest urban rail line under construction and is scheduled to be operational in 2021. The line has a length of 50 km and 20 stops.
In addition, the city has launched transport services on the first section of the maglev line, serving Shijingshan and Mentougou districts.
In the last nine years, the length of Beijing metro system increased by 400 km.
In 2016, more than 3 billion passengers used Beijing metro services, with a daily average of 8.27 million passengers.
