Uzbekistan Railways has finalized laying a 29.6 kilometers long railway line between Urgench and Khiva. The rail line is part of a project started in 2017 to develop the tourist potential of the region. Under the project, besides the railway line from Urgench to Khiva, a modern station in the city of Khiva will be constructed and electric trains will be introduced.
The project was developed by the specialists of Boshtransloyiha JSC and should be put into operation this year. The cost of the project is estimated at $35.9 million.
Taking into account the fact that modern electric trains, including high-speed trains, will run along new railway, advanced technologies are used in construction.
The modern station to be built in Khiva, which can simultaneously serve up to 200 passengers, will be equipped with modern technologies. It is also planned to introduce Wi-Fi high speed Internet services. Currently, construction and installation work is underway.
