4 bids for Klang Valley MRT Circle Line

Three Malaysian consortiums and a Chinese JV have submitted their turn-key tenders with financing for the MRT Circle Line.
The consortia announced by the Mass Rapid Transit Corporation (MRT Corp) are:

Sapura – TIEC Consortium
MMC-Gamuda – George Kent Joint Venture
Pacific – Mudajaya – JEC Consortium
China Communications Construction Company Ltd – China Communications Construction Company (M) Sdn Bhd JV

The contract is scheduled to be awarded in the first quarter of 2018. MRT Corp will carry out an evaluation of the bids based on three criteria: technical, financial standing and the financing package. A recommendation will then be submitted to the Ministry of Finance for decision and approval.
“Adopting a turn-key tender allows MRT Corp to seek the best option for funding the project, as we will try to get the lower cost in financing,” MRT Corp Circle Line Project Director Zohari Sulaiman said.
The next steps include preparing the detailed forecast ridership study, detailed environmental impact assessment, social impact assessment and heritage impact assessment.
The MRT Circle Line is expected to be 40 km in length, of which approximately 32 km will be underground with 26 stations planned along the alignment. The line, which will run around the periphery of Kuala Lumpur city centre, will intersect with all of the Klang Valley’s urban rail network, expanding its coverage significantly and providing greater mobility to commuters.
