Deutsche Bahn and Russian railways (RZD) will discuss in the near future the possibility of a form of co-operation in the implementation of the high-speed line on the Berlin-Moscow-Beijing route.
„Deutsche Bahn has positively assessed the implementation of the Eurasia Project. We are ready to support RZD, one of DB’s long-term stable partners”, the German company points out.
At the beginning of December, Russian Railways approached the German Initiative consortium (consisting of Siemens, Deutsche Bank and Deutsche Bahn and also other companies) proposing to invest in the construction of a section of the Berlin-Moscow-Beijing high-speed line. RZD announced it has yet to receive an official response from the German consortium.
Although it did not respond to the most recent request from RZD, the consortium said in the past months that it would be willing to invest in this cross-border railway project. The amount raised by the consortium of European companies amounted to EUR 3.5 billion.
We remind that construction of the Eurasia high speed railway (HSR) connecting Europe to China can be completed by 2026, Russian Railways announced in August.
The Russian segment of the railway is estimated at is RUB 3.6 trillion (USD 60.9 billion), Russian Railways said. This section of the HSR is anticipated to be laid from Krasnoye Station close to the border on Belarus to Zolotaya Sopka Station in the vicinity of the border with Kazakhstan. The total length of the Eurasia HSR will be 9,447 km (Beijing – Moscow – Berlin distance), including the Russian segment of 2,366 km.
