Stantec and Amec Foster Wheeler have been awarded a contract to provide technical advisory, design, and construction support services for Metrolinx’s Bowmanville rail expansion project.
Stantec and Amec Foster Wheeler will provide technical services related to the addition of two GO Transit tracks, a new layover facility, four new stations (Thornton Road and Ritson Road in Oshawa, Courtice Road in Courtice and Martin Road in Bowmanville), 19 grade separations/bridge expansions (including a grade separation over Highway 401), several culvert and at-grade crossing modifications, and the associated utility works to accommodate this new infrastructure.
The commuter rail expansion project will provide infrastructure improvements to accommodate a 20 km extension of Metrolinx’s GO Transit service along their Lakeshore East rail corridor, from Oshawa to Bowmanville. Metrolinx hopes to complete the construction by the end of 2023.
“The Bowmanville rail expansion represents an exciting investment in Durham Region – one that will greatly enhance its transportation infrastructure. Our team is excited to help create more transit options for people in communities throughout Durham,” Gregg Cooke, Stantec vice president for transportation, said.
