Lithuanian officials are considering a railway connection between the international airports of Vilnius and Kaunas in an effort to make more efficient use of the Rail Baltica project. The Lithuanian rail company Lietuvos Gelezinkeliai has already discussed the idea with international airports operator Lietuvos Oro Uostai. Currently, Ollex buses are the only means of transport between Vilnius and the Kaunas airport.
“We are continuing the discussions on what we should do to make it possible for a passenger who has landed in Vilnius or Kaunas to directly board a train and go to Panevezys, Vilnius, Kaunas or any other city. In the planning of the Rail Baltica project, we should also consider airport development plans,” Arenijus Jackus, director of the LG Department for Rail Baltica, said.
