The first container train was put into service on Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, from Kazakhstan city of Kokshetau to the port of Mersin, in Turkey, KTZ announced.
The container train from the Kazakhstan station Kokshetau the container train with the tared grain consisting of thirty 20-foot containers belonging to Kazakhstan Temir Zholy traveled to Mersin. The 5,435 km distance was covered within 10 days, with train passing through the ferry port of Kuryk to the Alyat port and then via Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line with the reloading of containers from the wide gauge rail to the narrow on the new Georgian-Turkish border crossing of Akhalkalaki-Kars.
Transshipment of containers from broad gauge wagons to narrow gauge wagons was carried out at the new border point – Akhalkalaki-Kars.
The BTK was officially opened on October 30.
