Poland launches tender for the construction of a new line

PKP Polish Railway Lines have announced a tender on the elaboration of design documentation for the construction of a new line linking Podłęże with Tymbark and Mszana Dolna (southern Poland). The value of the contract is PLN 200 million (EUR 47.2 million). The opening of the offers is scheduled for early 2018.
For the construction of Podłęże – Piekiełko and the modernisation of Chabówka – Nowy Sacz line, the value of the investment is estimated at PLN 7 billion (EUR 1.65 billion).
“According to the government’s announcement, the construction of the Podłęże – Piekiełko railway line is entering the implementation phase. PKP PLK has announced a tender for the design documentation necessary for the construction of the line, which will make an easier and significantly shorten travel time from Krakow to the south of the country,” Andrzej Adamczyk, Minister of Infrastructure and Construction.
The construction of Podłęże – Piekiełko railway line is divided into three phases. The first concerns the development of the project and the redemption of the necessary land for new routes and the other two phases will be focused on the modernisation of the existing line 104 between Chabówka and Nowy Sacz and the construction of a new route. The first stage, on the preparatory work will be implemented between 2017 and 2021. The other two phases will focus on the modernization of the existing railway line 104 between Chabówka and Nowy Sacz and the construction of a new route. Starting 2020, PKP PLK will implement the last two stages that are scheduled to be completed by 2026.
The Podłęże – Piekiełko line will require the construction and reconstruction of more than 60 bridges, almost 240 culverts, 16 viaducts and the construction of new platforms at 9 stations and in Limanowa the construction of two tunnels with a total length of 5.76 km.
The project represents another step to better travel in Malopolska Region (Lesser Poland Voivodeship), from north to south, as well as on Baltic – Balkans – Black Sea axis and will relieve heavily exploited cargo lines of Upper Silesia. The new railway connection will also fill the gap in the TEN-T comprehensive network.
